Sciatica Treatment from Your Duluth Chiropractor

At Associated Chiropractic Physicians, our Duluth chiropractor sees and treats a wide range of conditions that can affect the spinal column and, in turn, other areas of the body. One of the more common conditions we see in our office is that of sciatica, which occurs when the large sciatic nerve that runs through the lower back becomes compressed.

Common Symptoms of Sciatica

The most common symptom of sciatica is severe lower back pain. Many of our patients describe it as a sharp, stabbing pain that comes and goes. The pain can sometimes be mild, but is more often severe. Pain can sometimes radiate into the hips, legs, and buttocks. Some people with sciatica may also experience numbness in the legs, or a tingling pins-and-needles sensation in one or both legs. Also less common, additional sciatica symptoms that we have seen include:

  • muscle weakness
  • a burning sensation
  • foot numbness
  • limping while walking

How Chiropractic Care in Duluth Can Help

If you're suffering from any of these symptoms, it is important to seek chiropractic care in Duluth. In our office, we'll begin with an evaluation to confirm the diagnosis, followed by the formulation of a customized treatment plan to help you find back pain relief. The specific treatment we recommend will vary based on the specific cause of your sciatic nerve pain. One of the more common treatments we recommend is known as spinal adjustment, which allows us to relieve pressure on the sciatic nerve by manually improving the alignment of the spine. In some cases, spinal decompression may also be effective in treating sciatica, especially in situations where a herniated or bulging disc is causing excessive pressure to be placed along the sciatic nerve.
